A lighted makeup mirror is a great part of your makeup gear. However, not all lighted makeup mirrors are the same. 1. Halo lighting: The first type of lighting to consider is halo lighting. This is when the lights are located along the edge or rim of the mirror. It is along the outside of the mirror, so it is more diffused. It is called surround lighting as well. One of the things to consider with this is that it does a better job of mimicking natural daylight. Most beauty experts feel that the best lighting for makeup application, tweezing, and other things you might do in front of a makeup mirror is sunlight, and halo lighting comes pretty close in a much more practical way. It means being able to get rid of stray hairs, and get your makeup perfect.
2. Spot lighting: The difference between spot lighting and halo lighting is that halo lighting comes from along the outer side of the mirror, while spot lighting comes from a central light source. The mirror is lit from the inside, and illuminates the whole mirror. This is a helpful feature, and one that can be adjusted to both day and evening settings for your convenience if you are willing to pay the price to get it.
3. Additional lighting: The two most basic lighted mirrors for applying makeup are halo and spot-lighting. The biggest difference between halo and spot lighting is where the light originates, along the perimeter, or in the center. However, you can also get makeup mirrors with side lighting, which means that there are lights that line the sides of the mirror. It is not around the perimeter, or inside the mirror, but alongside it.
Because makeup mirrors are a convenient way to replicate the natural daylight, choosing a light source, and picking the correct one, is important. Of course, it is impractical for women to stand in the daylight to do their makeup every day, deciding which lighting source will work best for your makeup application is important.
